Stop waiting for the perfect location. This simple exercise will train you to see more instead of chasing more.
I catch myself doing this all the time. Blaming the location. Thinking this place isn't inspiring me enough. Convinced that some magic creative moment will hit me when I go somewhere better.
Most of the time, that's not really the problem.
So instead of chasing a new location, I stay exactly where I am. And I do this exercise that completely shifts how I see creative constraints.
The concept is simple. Pick one place and commit to staying there. It could be your room, a street nearby, a park, or even just a corner in your house.
Then force yourself to find five different ways to approach that same space.
Step one: Pick one place and commit to staying there.
Step two: Think of five different ways to approach the same space. Same room, different moods. Same street, different perspectives. Same object, different meanings.
Small changes can completely shift the feeling.
Step three: Start filming, but treat each version like its own project. Change your angles. Change the distance, your movement, or even the light if you can.
Step four: As you go, give each version a purpose. One can feel calm. Another one can be fast and energetic. Another one can be more like a story or a moment. This helps everything feel intentional instead of repetitive.
Step five: Look at everything once you're done. Notice what changed. What worked and which one stands out the most out of those five.
I love this exercise because it trains me to see more instead of chasing more.
It's not about finding a better location. It's about seeing more within the same space.
I fail at this completely sometimes. I think that the place is going to inspire me and I should just feel inspired wherever I am. But that's not how creativity actually works.
If you feel stuck, try this. Pick one location and push yourself to create five different stories from it.
You might realize that you have more ideas around you than you thought.
Good luck.
