Get Subwave: iOS · Android · Web
If you already publish on Substack, you don't have to start your Subwave channel from scratch. One ZIP upload brings over your posts, podcast episodes, images, and subscribers, so your catalog and your audience move with you.
Step 1: Set up your Subwave channel
You'll import into a channel, so you need one first. New to Subwave? Here's how to create your account and set up your channel.
Step 2: Export your data from Substack
- In Substack, go to Settings, then Exports
- Download the export, a ZIP file with your content and your subscriber list
Step 3: Open the import tool in Subwave
- Tap your Account profile in the bottom left to open your account menu
- Go to Settings
- Select Import from Substack
Step 4: Upload your ZIP and start the import
- Pick the channel you want to import into
- Upload the ZIP file from Substack
- Tap Start import
Step 5: Check the status
Once the import starts, you can follow its progress under Import History on the same screen.
What gets imported
- Posts: titles, bodies, publish dates, and visibility settings all carry over
- Episodes: podcast audio is copied over along with your posts
- Images: copied to Subwave along with the content they belong to
- Subscribers: everyone who hasn't opted out of email on Substack gets a pending invite to follow you on Subwave. Nobody is subscribed until they accept.
You can toggle off the subscriber invite email if you'd rather not notify them automatically.
