You can record a full podcast at the office with a phone, a tripod, and wireless mics. Here is the setup I use with the Detail app.
You can record a podcast at your office using one phone and a set of microphones. No camera crew, no audio interface, no rack of gear. If you want to record an interview or a podcast at work and you don't want to haul equipment around, this is the setup I'd use.
The whole kit is three things: your phone, a tripod, and a set of wireless microphones. Everything else happens in one app.
Start by picking a spot at the office. Choose somewhere that looks good on camera, because the phone will be capturing both the room and the people in it.
Next, download the Detail app from the App Store. Open it, start a new project, and record with the back camera in landscape. The back camera gives you a better image than the selfie camera, and landscape gives you the most flexibility later.
Mount the phone on the tripod, then connect the microphones to the phone with a USB-C cable. I'm using Rode mics. If your mics came with holders, use them. It's a small detail, but it makes the podcast look noticeably more professional on screen.
Once the phone is mounted and the mics are connected, bring your guest in, hit record, and start the podcast. There's nothing else to configure.
When you're done, you can edit everything inside the same app. Captions can be added automatically, so you don't need a separate tool for transcription or subtitles.
You also choose the format per destination. Keep it landscape for YouTube, or switch to portrait with a split-screen layout for social media. One recording covers both.
One phone, one app, and the same recording works for YouTube and for social.
It's a super simple setup, and it works best if you have a nice office space to record in. The space does a lot of the visual work for you, which is why picking the right spot matters more than adding more gear.
